Sean was kind enough to take the time and answer a few
questions for the fans.
1. What kind (model/make) glove do you
use?
I have several gloves all made by Rawlings. My newest glove
(the gamer) is a pro preferred black 12 inch modified trapeze with gray
laces...I think it is like pro 200gb or something like that. I also have
a brown 12 inch Rawlings with the modified hinge pocket. I have no idea
the model # or anything....=)
2. Does you get your own bats, do you
borrow from another player or does the club supply them? The clubhouse manager put a bat order in the beginning of spring
training for our bats... I swing an 34 inch 32 ounce c243 with my name on
it....they're black. Got the first MLB hit with it the other day...
I have a half dozen but if for some reason I need more they will order them.
3. ESPN showed you talking to Greg Maddux
when you came out during your debut. Curious, is there a rule or rule of
thumb, or is it up to the pitcher whether or not he stays in the dugout, or
goes to the locker room?
The rule of the thumb when you leave the game is to stay around and watch
the finish of the inning you come out and then watch the half when our hitters
hit. Some players obey...some don't....I usually head up one inning
later and do some running in the gym do shoulder weights and ice.
4. When you are not pitching and the Cubs
play, do you, as a starter sit in the dugout, or bullpen?
Starting pitchers sit in the dugout and enjoy the game. If I haven't
seen the hitters on the other team or am not familiar with them....we have the
luxury of going up into the clubhouse and watching the game on TV to see where
our pitchers pitch them....My last two starts I have started behind Maddux so I
will sit in the clubhouse with him and talk about how to pitch the hitters
with him...He knows so much. Seriously.
5. Comments on how the pro catchers gear
always seems to look so shiny or new, was wondering how many sets of gear a
pro catcher gets in a year.
I haven't asked Barrett about the gear he goes through in a year.
So he's used the same set, but the clubbies or the helpers clean the gear and
hang it to dry after every game. I suppose every time he needs gear he
has no problem getting the 'shiny' new ones. If I was to guess I bet he
goes through 10 sets in a year...maybe....
