12/08/06 - So, who are we to believe, the New York
Times or the Washington Post. One has Sean staying in the Cubs
rotation, the other has him coming to Washington. More
articles posted.
12/06/06 - A few new articles added with mention of
Sean.
12/02/06 - A few new articles added with mention of
Sean.
11/20/06 - A few new articles added with mention of
Sean.
10/20/06 - More baseball cards added.
10/08/06 - More pictures and a couple of new articles
added. I have not been able to find any 2006 baseball cards of
Sean, but did run across two new ones. I know for a fact that
one is a 2005 card. The other I believe to be 2006. See
them by clicking the baseball cards button above.
09/28/06 - More year end articles
added. "Marshall will spend the winter in Arizona. He's
hoping to find a personal trainer to help with his program, which
will include strengthening his legs and arms. "I worked pretty
hard [this season], and might have over-trained a little bit which
is why my side might have broken down," said Marshall, who was
sidelined with a strained oblique. Could he have imagined
being where he is six months ago? "No way," Marshall said. "I
have a whole year of service time in the Major Leagues. I didn't
think coming into Spring Training what I'd get -- if I could get a
month or if they needed me more than that. I can't complain at all
about how the season went. I wish I could've stayed healthy the
whole time but in my down time I just watched and learned."
Did he pinch himself at all about making the leap from Double-A to
the big leagues? "I pinched myself every week in the beginning
of the season," Marshall said. "Now, I feel like I'm one of the
guys. I can keep learning from them and hopefully they can learn
something from me."
09/27/06 - What a way to end the season,
with 6 strong innings. Looking like the Sean of old. He
picked up the win, pitching 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3
runs.
9/24/06 - Extra bases: Rookie right-hander Juan
Mateo will start Sunday in Game 3 of this four-game series against the Reds.
Rookie Sean Marshall is scheduled to
start Tuesday in the Cubs' series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers. ...
09/19/06 - Another short outing for Sean. I'm
wondering how much the hit off his foot played in his early departure.
He cruised through three innings facing one more than the minimum, but
things came apart in the 4th after taking a shot off his foot. Box
Scores, game summaries and one picture added.
09/13/06 - Sean couldn't recover from 4 errors behind him,
on seemingly easy plays and was relieved after 3 2/3 innings, trailing 7-0
on 4 unearned runs. He ended up with a no-decision as the Cubs were
able to come back and beat the Dodgers. Box scores, articles, pictures
all updated.

09/09/06 - A couple of new articles added on Sean most
recent game.
09/07/06 - Well, the second day back did not go by the script
I'm sure Sean wanted. Sean gave up five, all earned in 4 innings but
was not involved in the decision. See box scores, articles/game summaries and one new
picture.
09/03/06 - Well, the first day back did not go by the script
I'm sure Sean wanted. He did splash across many headlines because
Barry Bonds hit his 728th homer off him. Sean gave up three in all,
getting the loss. See box scores, articles/game summaries and one new
picture.
09/01/06 - Sean is scheduled to start Saturday against
the Giants. Happy
Birthday
to both Sean and Brian. Several new pictures added,
some from Iowa action. The Cubs
activated left-handers Scott Eyre and Sean Marshall from the 15-day disabled
list and right-hander Wade Miller from the 60-day disabled list Friday.
Sean got the call on his birthday. Nice present. Added some new
articles.
08/27/06 - Another great rehab start for Sean in Iowa,
although he got no decision. He pitched 7 innings allowing 1 unearned
run on 6 hits. Dusty, it's time to bring him back.
Getting closer — Marshall (strained right oblique), who is on a
rehab assignment at Iowa, pitched six scoreless innings Tuesday, and the
Cubs considered activating him for tonight's start. However, the Cubs are
taking a cautious approach and want him to make another rehab start.
"We're happy with the way Marshall pitched, but we want to make sure
he's all the way back," Hendry said. "He needs to get his
endurance and strength back. When you've had that type of injury, it takes a
while. His velocity is close. But we thought that one more outing might get
it up a couple more miles per hour."
08/27/06 - Game summaries form Sean's last game, as well as
come new articles were added to the site. Last game summary, in which
Sean was quote can be found
here.
From the Chicago Tribune "Sunday's
starter is still a mystery, apparently even to the Cubs, because Wade Miller
and Sean Marshall most likely will not come off the DL until rosters expand
Sept. 1." If Sean has not been recalled, I think he is
in line to pitch today in Iowa against the New Orleans Zeyphrs at 1 pm CDT.
08/22/06 - Sean got the start today, but relief could not
hold the lead for him to gain the win. More important was his
pitching. Looking like the Sean of old. It will be interesting
to see if Dusty will bring him back now. Stats have been updated with
today's box score, but there are no articles or game summaries yet.
There are some new articles, but not related to this game.
Dusty Baker - "While Baker liked what he saw of
pitcher Ryan O'Malley earlier in the week, he said it's premature to pencil
the rookie into the rotation at this time.
"He'll probably get another start," Baker said, "but to
put him into the rotation depends on what he does in subsequent starts, and
also when (Wade) Miller and (Sean) Marshall come back. I can't commit
totally right now."
Brian Longly - Lincoln Courier - "Marshall
certainly has given the Cubs every indication that he's ready to succeed on
the big league level. His numbers this year aren't great, but he's shown
signs of dominance this year. He's had eight outings of at least six innings
where he's given up two runs or less. He may still come back to start a game
or two before the season's over, but either way, plan on seeing him next
year."
08/18/06 - Another rough rehab outing for Sean. Minor
matters: Sean Marshall gave up six runs on four hits and four walks over
5 2/3 innings while striking out six in Iowa's 6-1 loss to Round Rock.
Box scores, stats and game recaps have been posted.
Fashion meets Chicago baseball at children's boutique
Madison and Friends, 940 N. Rush, this weekend and next: The shop celebrates
its 10th anniversary on Saturday by hosting Chicago Cubs players Matt Murton,
Sean Marshall, Scott Eyre, Bobby Howry and Glendon Rusch -- all of whom will
sign autographs for a suggested donation of $45 from 5 to 6:45 p.m., with
the proceeds all going toward Ronald McDonald House Charities.
08/13/06 - Wearing #46 for Iowa, Sean made his first rehab
start last night against the Memphis Redbirds. He was tagged with the
loss, having given up a run before a hit. See the box, stats etc by
click on the menu items to the right.
08/10/06 - Sean Marshall and Wade Miller will both make
Minor League rehab starts this weekend. The Cubs have yet to decide where,
athletic trainer Mark O'Neal said. Rumor says it will be at AAA Iowa.
Marshall, sidelined with a strained right oblique, threw three innings in
the bullpen on Tuesday. He said the session went well and that he threw full
speed. Marshall has been on the disabled list since July 23.
Rehabbing weekend — Left-hander Sean Marshall
(right oblique) threw three innings in the bullpen at Miller Park on Tuesday
and will head out for a minor league rehab assignment over the weekend. The
Cubs haven't announced where and when, but it's possible Marshall will pitch
Saturday for Triple-A Iowa at Memphis.
Marshall plan: Rookie Sean Marshall was a breath of
fresh air until he was shut down by an oblique strain two weeks ago. Should
be back by September to prove he has earned a rotation spot in '07.
08/06/06 - From the Chicago
Tribune "On the mend - Lefty Sean Marshall is eligible to return to
action next week, but it appears he'll remain on the disabled list
with a strained oblique muscle."
08/05/06 - Sorry, hot and busy in Virginia. New
articles added. New pictures thanks to the Marshall's. Sean is
throwing again.

Manager Dusty Baker finally can put a face to the name Juan
Mateo after seeing the rookie throw five innings, giving up two earned runs,
to earn the win in his first major league appearance Thursday. That doesn't
mean Mateo, who hadn't pitched above Class AA in five seasons before
Thursday, is guaranteed another start. With fellow rookie Sean Marshall
improving from a strained right oblique muscle, Mateo's future is up in the
air.
07/31/06 - "Rookie Sean Marshall, placed on the
disabled list July 23 with a strained right oblique, has yet to resume
throwing."
07/24/06 - The Cubs placed pitcher Sean Marshall on the
15-day disabled list, a day after the left-hander left a start against
Washington with a strained left rib-cage muscle. Right-handed relievers
David Aardsma and Michael Wuertz were recalled from Class AAA Iowa to take
Marshall's roster spot and to fill the vacancy cre ated when right-hander
Scott Williamson was traded to San Diego for two minor-leaguers Saturday
night.
07/23/06 - "Marshall likely headed to DL" .
Couple of articles added relative to this topic. Also found more
photos.
07/22/06 - Sean pitched well today but got a "no
decision" quoted from MLB.com - "Marshall, 23, had to leave
after one pitch in the fifth inning because of a strained left oblique, and
his status is day to day. The rookie left-hander gave up two runs on six
hits over four innings, and then he threw one pitch, a ball, to Robert Fick
leading off the fifth. Marshall finished that pitch in an odd way, and he
was pulled." Articles, box scores, game summaries have been
updated.
07/18/06 - Awesome must read article "“For
where he’s come from he’s done fine, and he has a chance to get better
and better,” pitching coach Larry Rothschild said."
I think I actually saw a smile on his face in one of the post HR
pictures. When watching the games, I am only used to seeing his game
face.
07/17/06 - Simply Incredible - Sean hit his first
"Jack" in his first AB last night against the Mets. He also
had a single, going 2 for 3, with 5 great innings of work. He pitched
a great game but got a couple of bad breaks in the 6th that ended his
night. You can see a clip of his HR on MLB.com. If I can find a
copy, I will add it here. Articles, pictures, stats - all updated.

07/16/06 - From the Cubs midterm report:- Biggest
surprise: Rookie Sean Marshall had not pitched higher than Double-A, but
his smooth delivery and mature demeanor have helped him stick in the
rotation. The left-hander is smart enough to figure things out.
07/15/06 - Cubs have announced Sean's next start will be
this coming Sunday against the Mets at Wrigley.
07/11/06 - More articles have been added. Also, there
is no specific date for Sean's next start. I would imagine if Mark
Prior cannot go, that Sean would go on Sunday against the Mets. I
guess he may pitch in any of the games in Washington. I'll keep an eye
on the cubs news.
07/09/06 - Sean's next game will be the 18th against
Houston, and if I am reading the schedule correctly, and starts remain as
they should, he'll be pitching in Washington on the 23rd.
"Baker said the Cubs will come
back Friday in a three-game series against the New York Mets with a rotation
of Greg Maddux, Carlos Zambrano and Mark Prior. After a day off July 17,
Sean Marshall will open a series against the Houston Astros before Maddux,
Zambrano and Prior follow him the rest of the week. Marmol -- or
someone else -- will take the No. 5 starter role July 22 in Washington."
07/06/06 - The "W" flag is flying outside Wrigley
today thanks to Sean. Updates to the Stats, etc including a few new
pictures. Click on those menu items to the right.

07/05/06 - Chicago will counter with left-handed rookie Sean
Marshall, who will make his 17th start of the season and is 4-7 with a 5.19
ERA. Marshall has dropped his last two starts and is 1-6 over his past eight
outings. In his last start on June 30 against the Chicago White Sox,
Marshall was reached for four runs on eight hits in six innings. Marshall
has faced Houston twice this season and lost both encounters. He absorbed
the loss on June 7, despite allowing only a run in seven innings, then
allowed five runs in four innings on June 13. His ERA against the Astros is
5.19.
06/30/06 - Loss number 7 on the season. Game
recaps and summaries/box scores all updated.

Also added some new articles, I
like this one, where Sean is mentioned as being one of the core players
for Chicago.
06/25/06 - To say the Cubs bats fell silent is one
aspect. Another would be terrible defense. Sean may have given
up 4 earned runs today, but there is no way four earned runs should have
scored. The details are in the links to the left.
06/20/06 - Sean picked up win #4 last night.
"Marshall wasn't quite as sharp as he'd like," Baker said.
"But he's had some games when he's been real sharp and had nothing to
show for it. Tonight was one of those makeup victories for him, and we
needed badly to get off this losing streak." See articles etc at
their usual locations on this site. Sean Marshall (4-5) picked up the
win in a rain-shortened outing. He pitched five innings before rain began to
fall, leading to a one-hour, 13-minute delay. Marshall allowed four runs on
seven hits to snap a personal four-game losing streak.
Unofficially, the Cubs have set up a weekend rotation of Carlos
Marmol on Friday, Mark Prior on Saturday and Sean Marshall
on Sunday, but Wood has a chance to nudge Marshall out of that spot.
06/17/16 - ESPN Just reported that Mark Prior will start
Sunday vs the Tigers. This will push Sean's start to Monday in
Cleveland at the "Jake".

06/17/06 - Great article, a must read, click
here. Also, the latest from the Cubs as to whether or not Sean's
start will be pushed back a day should come today after Mark Prior throws a
bullpen.
06/16/06 - More articles added.
06/14/06 - More
pictures found from last night. Also, check
this out. From the game perspective, the one that count, Sean did
not seem to have his stuff last night and ended up losing. Articles,
summaries and stats have all been updated.
06/13/06 - More
pictures found. Also, check
out this article. If Sean does not pitch a complete game tonight:

(Sean,
not that we're assuming you'll need replacement tonight, but let's just
say that when the "closer" is needed, he'll be called via
wireless.)
06/12/06 - On deck: After a day off on Monday, lefty
Sean Marshall will take the mound for the Cubs as they return home on
Tuesday to face the Astros at 7:05 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field. Right-hander
Roy Oswalt will oppose Marshall for Houston.
A numbers game.
The number of pitchers who will have started games for the Chicago Cubs
this season, when rookie Carlos Marmol steps in for the injured Kerry Wood
today in Cincinnati. According to Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News, Marmol
will be the fifth rookie to start for Chicago, joining Sean Marshall,
Rich Hill, Angel Guzman and Jae Kuk-Ryu. By comparison, the Reds have used
six starters -- Aaron Harang, Bronson Arroyo, Eric Milton, Brandon Claussen,
Elizardo Ramirez and Dave Williams. And no rookies.
06/08/06 - More articles added about the last game.
6/07/06 - Another great start for Sean, but no run support
he ended up on the short side of a 1-0 score. One new picture found
and added. Game summaries, and articles have been added too. Did
You Know - Sean Marshall now has 47 Ks, ranking him among the NL's
rookie leaders.
06/03/06 - LHP Sean
Marshall made his 11th start, tied with the Pirates' Paul
Maholm for the most among rookies. Couple of new
pictures added, couple of new
articles.
06/03/06 - Another strong outing for Sean, but unfortunately
he got no decision. 14 inning epic. Read about it and see the
stats and BoxScore by clicking on the links to the right.
06/02/06 - Yearning

05/30/06 - Sean's next scheduled start is Friday @ the St. Louis

added.
05/28/06 - Added a couple of new Windows Wallpaper files for Sean's first
MLB game warm up. Click

05/27/06 - Another strong outing for Sean, but the Cubs were only able to
manage one run. Game Summaries (partial - still waiting on some to

here for an update on Brian from the Richmond times Dispatch.
05/24/06 - Again, sorry for the delay, but Clover Hill lives to play
another day. They were the 4th seed (of 4) in the Dominion District
tournament. They won and play again tomorrow night for the Dominion
District championship. Sean's last outing was not pretty.
Articles, BoxScores, Game Summaries and a couple of new pictures have been
added.
05/18/06 - Sorry for the delay, but the High School season is nearing an
end. My score keeping duties keep me busy. Sean pitched another
gem last night, extending the Cubs then winning streak to two games.
He picked up his third hit of the year, as well as his third win. Stats,
BoxScores, Game Summaries have all been updated. There are even a
couple of new pictures under that link.
It is uncanny looking at some of these pictures taken at different games,
by different photographers, and studying them. Sean's motion seems to
be the same in all, which is exactly what he wants (or so I would
think). It's quite a thing. Click
on it for a larger print.
05/13/06 - From the Mercury News in San Jose:
JINX OF THE WEEK
Cubs rookie pitcher Sean Marshall says he's not superstitious. But he
does think it's a good idea to have a steak for lunch on days he's scheduled
to start, followed by a pregame hot dog. Following that routine, he'd had a
1.42 ERA in his last four starts. That was before Thursday, when a 12:35
start in San Francisco forced a change. And Marshall lasted just 3 2/3
innings, giving up nine runs on nine hits and five walks. Coincidence? You
make the call.
05/12/06 - Not pretty yesterday. Game summaries, BoxScores and
articles have been updated, as well as a couple of new pictures.
05/09/06 - More articles.
05/08/06 - Sean's next start is scheduled for 5/11 at the San Francisco
Giants. More articles and pictures added.
05/07/06 - Another great performance by Sean, but with no run
support. He ended up with another no decision. Few new pictures
added from this game. Checkout the Box Scores, Pictures and Scoreboard
links.
05/06/06 - Sean is taking the mound again tonight against the Padres,
10pm ET start. It is on cable WGN out of Chicago. More good articles
added, check the link to the right. Will not be able to update Sean's
outing tomorrow until late.
05/02/06 - Sorry for the delay in updates. Sean pitched another
excellent game, going 7 1/3 innings, but ending up with no decision.
You can find the game summaries and box scores by selecting those picks to
the right. Also found three new pictures. Sorry for the delay,
but I was witness to my first ever no-hitter. Unfortunately, the team
I was with lost, but it was quite a thing to watch. Midlothian High
School blanked Clover Hill High School 3-0.
04/30/06 - Another article added.
04/28/06 - All about "Big Smooth" from MLB.com. Excellent
article on him, click

04/26/06 - "Marshall Throws a Gem". "Baker recalled
what pitching coach Larry Rothschild and Maddux had told him about Marshall
during spring training, They said, 'Hey, we got something here special, he
said. He's a poised, confident young man. He doesn't say much. Just goes
about his job and does it well.''
04/22/06 - Here are a couple of interesting excerpts. From
Recordnet.com :- Only in LA It was your typical Wednesday
night in Holly-weird. Brad Penny was pitching for the Dodgers. Sean Marshall
was pitching for the Cubs. For those keeping score at home, that's the
Penny-Marshall pitching match up, and that's not the funniest part. Spotted
inside the press box was actor David "Squiggy" Lander, Penny
Marshall's co-star on "Laverne and Shirley" in the 1970s and now
an associate scout for the Seattle Mariners. Or
from the Mercury News (California news paper) relative to
replacing Derek Lee and potential trades :- The problems with this are: 1)
Soriano and Walker might be the poorest fielding right side of an infield in
history, and 2) Nationals general manager Jim Bowden probably would demand a
package built around Pie and Sean Marshall to get Soriano.
04/20/06 - Sean made his third appearance last night against the Dodgers,
getting no decision. Cubs won 5-4. You can find the box score
and latest articles and pictures by clicking on the links at the
right. Couple of new pictures today too. Great article, must
read, click

04/13/05 - Few new articles, one says Sean's not ready for the "Bigs".
I kicked around adding it, but thought everyone has an opinion. It
isn't actually anti-Sean, it's kind of anti-Cubs management. All
others are positive.

the article talks about Sean, or if he is just mentioned in some
context. That doesn't mean you should not read the article, but it

04/11/06 - More Ink, but little in the way of pictures so far. 04/10/06 - OK, where to we start. Sean made his major league debut
last night pitching 4.1 strong innings. the cubs won, although he did
not get a decision. All the Marshall's were on ESPN. Awesome, I
can only imagine the feeling of excitement. Check out the Articles and
BoxScores links under Sean's name. The game summaries will be found
with the BoxScores. Normal press articles mentioning Sean or Brian are
found at the Articles links. Did you also know, Sean's start Sunday
night had some historic significance. He is the 1,800th different player to
wear a Cubs uniform. Be aware that you can buy a copy of Sean's game,
in computer format for $3.95 from MLB.com. If you do, just remember
that you can only play it on the computer, and on a registered copy of the
broadcast - meaning, you are allowed a certain number of computers it will
work on. Check the Statistics button too. Sorry if you learned about
the Red Sox releasing Brian on ESPN. I try to keep this upbeat, and
hoped he'd catch on elsewhere before the news broke.
04/09/06 - Tonight's the night. All eyes should be turned to ESPN's

daily, some if it more interesting than others. Will continue to post
as I find them. When Sean pitches, we will begin using the box score
and other game info as we have in the past.

Bush threw out the first pitch of the Cubs vs. Reds game on Monday, April
3rd. Sean is in the photo (upper left corner). He must be having the
time of his life. Also, more Ink. (More articles mentioning or discussing Sean's

03/29/06 - Awesome. Sean is a
Cub and will be on the Cubs opening day roster. He is the 4th starter,
so according to the paper, this would mean he'll pitch in Chicago against
the Reds on April 8th. Check out the latest online article from
the Chicago Tribune.
03/29/06 - Well, being a baseball guy, I am superstitious, so I will not
put my opinion here. Sean's competition for the 5th starter spot got
reassigned today to Iowa. Three new articles, the top
most on the listing from the Chicago Sun Times is a must read.
Everything is still crossed on Sean opening with the Cubs. As of a few
minutes ago, 28 players on the active roster, they keep 25.
03/28/06 - More ink. Check the articles button under Sean's name.
03/26/06 - A lot more ink on Sean. Even one fan thinking he should

03/21/06 - From MLB.com Cubs on the mound: Starter Sean
Marshall worked three scoreless innings, allowing two hits. Marshall fanned
two and walked one. Bobby Howry pitched two innings, allowing four hits and
two earned runs.
This brings him to 6.1 scoreless innings, surely making a push for that
#5 spot.

Mesa, Ariz., where Milwaukee left-hander Chris Capuano is scheduled to start
